On Sunday, May 6, the TD 5-Boro Bike Tour will allow registered bicyclists to pedal their way through 40 miles of car-free New York City streets. The route will bring them down the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway/Gowanus Expressway and over the Verrazano Bridge, and will result in partial closures on the affected roadways.
This year’s Bike Tour will take cyclists down the southbound lanes of the BQE from downtown Brooklyn all the way through to the Verrazano Bridge. (This is a slight change from last year, when cyclists took the Shore Parkway on their way to Staten Island).
We have not yet received the street closure schedule from the NYC Department of Transportation. However, based on last year’s event, expect The southbound lanes of the BQE to be closed from 9:00am to 3:30pm [Updated May 3 with info from the DOT]. The northbound lanes will remain open.
On the lower level of the Verrazano Bridge, all Staten Island-bound lanes and one Brooklyn-bound lane will be closed from midnight until 6pm. The remaining Brooklyn-bound lanes will be closed for a shorter period of time – from midnight until 8am. The upper level will be open in both directions at all times.
