Step right up, folks!
The magical, carnie spirit of Coney Island will soon come alive inside of a Bay Ridge art space.
On Saturday, August 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Coney Island USA artist-in-residence Marie Roberts will be showcasing 15 years of her life’s work. You’ll be able to see colorful, imagistic, absolutely freaking gorgeous sideshow banners in person at the Art Room [8710 3rd Ave].
A Coney Island native, Roberts’ family has held a strong bond with their community for generations, and her art reflects a deeper connection with the land, sea, and of course, the good people of Brooklyn’s southern shore.
But Marie Roberts also has a connection with Bay Ridge. If you’re active in the Bay Ridge Community Center, then you’ll probably remember her from their annual Halloween window painting contest.
And that’s not all!
As an added bonus, the world-famous sideshow performer Adam Real Man will be there to help greet attendees of all ages. I have it on good authority that Adam is a magician, strongman, sword swallower, and fire-eater – so come expecting the unexpected!
After opening night, private showings of Marie Roberts’ work will be available by appointment only through August 24.
The Art Room is located at 8710 3rd Ave, between 87th Street and 88th Street.
