While unseasonably cool temperatures and rain made the weather less than cooperative for a summer street fair, Bay Ridge’s first Summer Stroll on Third Avenue last Friday still managed to be a success, writes Melisa Stumpf for the Home Reporter.

Summer Stroll, which closes 3rd Ave from 82nd Street to 89th Street, returns for three more dates in July and August.  The event “transforms” the thoroughfare into a pedestrian mall complete with block-by-block street themes.

Attendees enjoyed the outdoor stands and sidewalk tables set up by local businesses, which included some offbeat promotional tactics.

From Home Reporter:

A Marilyn Monroe impersonator, Liam Alexander, wandered through the crowd handing out fliers  for an upcoming event at Fushimi Restaurant. He made people’s heads turn as passers-by got a chance to photograph him.

“I love Bay Ridge,” called out Martin McQuade, a native Brooklynite. “I wanted to see the community out having a good time,” he said.

McQuade told the Home Reporter that he looked forward to having an clear view of the highest point in Bay Ridge, which is located on 84th Street, and is normally obstructed by cars and trucks.

Anthony Giordano, who was unabashedly dressed as a clown, told Home Reporter that his primary mission was to “see everybody happy.” He stood in front of Going in Style beauty salon along with “Rob the Magician,” who rang in the weekend by putting smiles on the faces of the public.

Additional dates for Summer Stroll On Third include this Friday, July 27, August 10, and August 17. The pedestrian party lasts from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Please check out our Events Calender for more details, as well as other neighborhood happenings.
