Summer Stroll 2013 MapThis Friday, the idyllic pedestrian plaza and street bazaar known as Summer Stroll on Third Avenue is coming back to Bay Ridge for its second year running.

The Summer Stroll is organized by the Merchants of Third Avenue as a way to create open space in the spirit of the DOT’s summer streets program while showcasing the area’s businesses and non-profits and giving them outdoor sidewalk and street access for seating, tables, and performance.

Important change from last year: different sections of Third Avenue will be closed to traffic, depending on which Friday night you happen to be looking at:

  • This Friday and next (July 19 and July 26), Third Avenue will be closed from 80th Street to 90th Street.
  • On two Fridays in August (August 9 and August 16), Third Avenue will be closed from 69th Street to 80th Street.

This approach will allow more businesses to participate in the Stroll than last year, without having to close off any more of the street at any given time.

Hey, drivers! Keep in mind, you obviously can’t turn down Third Avenue between any of the closed segments, but hey visitors! Cars can cross Third Avenue at any side street, so don’t get run over while crossing side streets.

There will be several performers and a treasure hunt during each night of the Stroll. It goes on from 6pm to 10pm all four nights.

All SS workers are volunteers–led by SS Chief Bina Valenzano of Bookmark Shoppe SS is yet another feather in cap of Merchant leaders like Bob Howe who’s been president overseeing unique development of Third Avenue as leading neighborhood gathering place. Note: Only with good news you can call SS Chief Bina at 718 833 5115. No trouble makers are permitted to call.
Chuck’s Rule: Can’t talk with Bina unless you buy a book. Her contribution to the avenue and Bay Ridge is priceless. Support Third Avenue and great volunteer effort: buy a book!~!
