BAY RIDGE, SEEN IN PHOTOS: Please tell me there’s a point in the week – or even in the year – when people are steaming in and out of both the American Legion and the Oulel Albab mosque. Now, THAT is a picture that would be worth a thousand words.
BAY RIDGE, GRAVESEND, ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT: OK, first of all, docu-series? DOCU-SERIES? What the frak is that supposed to mean? If we’re to suppose that’s meant to be the amalgamation of the words “documentary” and “series,” then I would describe Ken Burn’s The Civil War is a docu-series. This looks like trash the guys at Sanitation wouldn’t pick up. And also – 11223 is not Bay Ridge.
BAY RIDGE, POLITICS: It hasn’t been an easy week in the media for Congressman Michael Grimm, the Republican representing Bay Ridge and Staten Island in the House of Representatives. Yesterday’s news that a staffer for Representative Michael Grimm had been arrested for a physical altercation with his teenage son is the latest in a series of black marks against the Congressman and his office.
BAY RIDGE, FOOD & DRINK: A cabaret license application for the Amnesia nightclub (10007 4th Avenue) is facing stiff opposition from neighbors, who spoke out against the club at a Community Board 10 sub-committee meeting Wednesday night. Citing community complaints, adverse history, and the fact that Amnesia has already been operating as a dance club without a cabaret license, the Police & Public Safety Committee voted to recommend rejecting Amnesia’s cabaret application. See community complains, the club representative’s response, and some background on NYC cabaret and dancing laws.
