From apartment buildings, farms and mutual insurance companies, to credit unions, factories and supermarkets, modern customer and worker-owned entities known as coops, or co-ops, got their start in 19th Century Europe.
In a continuation of the cooperative business model, the Bay Ridge Food Coop is attempting to offer Bay Ridge consumers an alternative to for-profit groceries with a community-owned food store that emphasizes sustainable, locally-grown, and organic food meant to preserve the health of both its customers and the local economy.
Tonight the Bay Ridge Food Coop will be holding a general meeting at Our Saviour’s School Kitchen [414 80th Street], beginning at 7 p.m.
The agenda for tonight’s meeting will include the following:
- Committee Reports (Grants, Outreach, Distribution, Membership, Technology, & Finance)
- Business Development Report Governance/Board of Directors/By-Laws Discussion & Updates
There will be a special meet and greet for anyone who is curious about the coop from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
