Tonight: Community Board 10 Double-Header

Tonight (November 19, 2012), Community Board 10 will be holding both a sub-committee meeting and their general meeting at the Norwegian Christian Home (1250 67th Street).

The Traffic & Transportation Committee will kick things off at 6:45pm to discuss the proposed location of the Department of Transportation’s CityBench at the Bay Ridge branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. The CityBench program is a $3 million initiative to add 1,000 public benches across the five boroughs with a priority placed on shopping areas, sidewalks near transit, and municipal buildings (like libraries).

Flushing Bank: It’s Never Too Early To Start Saving For College

As college tuition continues to climb while student loan debt exceeds one trillion dollars, one local bank has some advice for the parents of small children: Better start saving now.

To further communicate the necessity of squirreling away some salary for your little one’s schooling, Flushing Bank [7102 3rd Ave] held a seminar for parents of the future college-bound at the Bay Ridge Library [7223 Ridge Blvd] on May 11, according to Denise Romano with the Home Reporter. Seen On Ridge Boulevard: The Library

The Bay Ridge branch, as told by the Brooklyn Public Library:

Built on its present site in 1896, the Bay Ridge Free Library, first organized in 1880 by the Bay Ridge Reading Club, became a BPL branch in 1901. The spacious, two-story structure opened in 1960. In 2004 it underwent a $2.1 million renovation that included a new roof, new lighting, furniture, shelving and 27 new public access computers.
