Bay Ridge Rod and Gun emilydickonsonridesabmx

The above photo is by emilydickinsonridesabmx via Flickr, who writes:

Sign above the Bay Ridge Rod and Hunt Club (ibid) on Ft. Hamilton Parkway, on the border of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights Brooklyn.

Amusing that there is a target range in South Brooklyn, adjoining a pizzeria no less.

It was taken on September 11, 2010.

David Tan Autumn Leaves 2

David Tan NicheThe accompanying photos were taken by Bath Beach shutterbug David Tan back in November – weeks before the holiday season got into full gear and people got wrapped up in the promise of a new year.

One features some fall foliage, while the other shows the importance of finding your niche.

They were both taken on November 23, 2012.

Overpass Verrazano Gowanus Belt David Tan

When I first saw this photo – by the talented Mr. David Tan – and realized that it may be the single most attractive underside of a highway overpass ever seen, I imagined some rusticated voice chime in, “Best damn ramp in the state! Uh huh…”

I believe this little park/playground area, lying underneath the ramp connecting the Verrazano Bridge/Gowanus Expressway to the Belt Parkway, also made a brief cameo in the film Saturday Night Fever.

It was taken on December 15, 2012.

In this week’s photo, which once again comes courtesy of photographer David Tan, an owl statue watches over Owl’s Head Park, while seeming to seek out a different pickup basketball game to play in.

It was taken October 13, 2012.

Even in our increasingly digitized world, old Gutenberg and Bi Sheng would probably be pleased that so many readers still prefer words printed on paper rather than displayed on a glowing screen.

The accompanying image, captured by Bath Beach photographer David Tan, shows a store on the corner of 4th Avenue and 92nd Street over which the written word still rules.

The photo was appropriately taken using good old-fashioned Fuji Superia 200 film on October 8, 2012.

In the blogosphere, it’s considered good “netiquette” to give a hat tip or “h/t” to the original source or tipster behind a particular post.

Then there is, of course, the more literal kind.

Here at Bay Ridge Odyssey we always tip our hats to Mr. Tan of Bath Beach for providing us with an endless number of photos illustrating the people, places, and things that make Bay Ridge what it is.
