Yesterday, the Home Reporter/Brooklyn Spectator posted an announcement online that it would be moving its headquarters from its current location on the corner of Third Avenue and 88th Street to the former home of Fergus Hardware on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Marine Avenue.

In 2012, the street corner was co-named as Frank Griffin Way, after the Home Reporter’s founder. Griffin published the Home Reporter from its founding in 1952 until its sale to the Queens Courier publishers Victoria and Josh Schneps in early 2011. Griffin merged the Home Reporter with the Sunset News in 1962, and purchased the Brooklyn Spectator in 1976.

On Wednesday, the New York City Council voted to rename the street corner outside of the office building of the Home Reporter after its founder and longtime publisher, Frank Griffin. In a written statement, Councilmember Vincent Gentile said “Frank was our Joseph Pulitzer, and it seems only fitting that we say ‘thank you’ by dedicating a portion of New York City after a man who served the community in such a remarkable way.”

Griffin published the Home Reporter from its founding in 1952 until its sale to the Queens Courier publishers Victoria and Josh Schneps in early 2011 (the Queens Courier is not related to the Bay Ridge Courier, which is published by a division of News Corporation). Griffin merged the Home Reporter with the Sunset News in 1962, and purchased the Brooklyn Spectator in 1976.

Griffin passed away shortly after the sale at the age of 83.

The details of the name dedication ceremony to take place in a few months time will be released at a later date.
