On Monday, April 23, GrowNYC’s Office of Recycling Outreach and Education is hosting a clothing and textile recycling collection in conjunction with Lutheran HealthCare Senior Housing. Bring clean and dry clothing, paired shoes, bedding, linens, hats, handbags, belts, fabric scraps 36″ x 36″ or larger and other textiles to Shore Hill Housing (9000 Shore Road), 10am-3pm.

Each year the average New Yorker throws nearly 50 pounds of textiles such as old clothing, towels and shoes in the household trash. That adds up to over 380 million pounds each year citywide – a number GrowNYC’s Office of Recycling Outreach and Education is working to shrink: we’ve collected 1,400,000 lbs of textiles from more than 80,000 New Yorkers and counting.  We’re aiming to promote waste prevention and recycling, giving residents a greener way to clean out their closets and engage in the community.

P.S. Earth Day is a Sunday this year. “Earth Day Monday” is the Monday after Earth Day. I don’t think that’s a real expression, but I’m rolling with it anyway.
