Gentile Wants Parking Meter Rules Suspended On Same Days As Alternate Side Parking

This past President’s Day, when alternate side parking [ASP] rules were suspended, many Bay Ridge drivers assumed meter rules would also cease to be in effect for the day. Unfortunately, they assumed wrong.

In order to prevent this type of confusion in the future, Councilman Vincent Gentile has reintroduced legislation to coordinate ASP and meters so that both parking rules are suspended on the same days, as reported by Fox 5.

Gentile had mentioned suspending Sunday parking meter rules during his recent campaign kickoff at the Dyker Beach Golf Club, under the theme of protecting everyday New Yorkers from being preyed on by a revenue-hungry city government.

“I’m not afraid to fight for your right as a New Yorker to get what you deserve or get government off your back,” Gentile was quoted by Home Reporter as saying. “Taxpayers and small businesses should not be an ATM for the city of New York.”

While the councilman says he has garnered bipartisan support for the measure, his office conceded to reporters that even if it were to pass Mayor Bloomberg would most likely veto it.

CB 10 Meets Monday, September 24 – Parks Committee Meeting Cancelled

Community Board 10 will be holding a General Meeting this coming Monday, September 24, at 7:15 p.m. in the Shore Hill Community Room [9000 Shore Road].

As a reminder, a CB 10 Parks Committee meeting that had been scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.

Among the items on Monday night’s agenda is a public hearing and vote regarding a street naming request. Under the proposal, 80th Street and 5th Avenue would be co-named for Charles Ahl. Ahl was CB 10′s first chairperson and the father of current board member, local business owner, and community activist Greg Ahl.

There will also be a hearing and vote for a proposed reduction in the number of required parking spaces for a property at 701-745 64th Street.

The Traffic and Transportation Committee is planning to announce which streets they’d like to see bike lanes installed on, followed by a discussion and vote.

The committee will also present a report on the DOT’s planned elimination of eight parking spaces on 4th Avenue and 65th Street. The parking spots would be removed in order to create a left turn lane.

The Zoning and Land Use Committee will make a presentation on PFI [Parking Fairness Initiative].

And finally, the Environmental Committee will update a previous report by the Association for Affordable Energy on energy efficient buildings and applicable Con Ed programs.

CB 10 Meets Tonight At Shore Hill Community Room!

Tonight, Community Board 10 will hold its monthly General Board Meeting.

The event, which is open to the public, will take place at the Shore Hill Community Room [9000 Shore Road], beginning at 7:15 p.m. The agenda [via CB 10's website] will include:

  • Traffic & Transportation Committee: DOT 86th Street Reconfiguration Project; Update on refurbishing of the bridge over the Belt Parkway at 69th Street as presented to the Committee by DOT.
  • Ad Hoc Committee on Street Namings: Presentation of proposed changes to current CB 10 Street Naming Guidelines.
  • Zoning & Land Use Committee: Presentation of completed PFI (Parking Fairness Initiative) Document.
  • Environmental Committee: Spectra Pipeline and the possibility of radon in natural gas from Marcellus Shale entering the NYC water supply.
  • Parks Committee: Update on Eco Dock Plans for the 69th Street Pier as presented to the Committee by Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance; Update on final plan for local schools to help maintain local parks on an ongoing basis.
