Red light cameras have become a familiar presence on certain heavily-trafficked intersections of New York City. Now, in the aftermath of several gruesome and fatal crashes, both state and city officials are increasingly supporting the introduction of cameras to punish drivers who endanger others by speeding.

A recent experiment by local reporter Will Bredderman showed that many, if not most, Bay Ridge drivers speed – And data provided by the advocacy group Transportation Alternatives shows similarly high numbers of speeders in other neighborhoods.

Incumbent State Senator Marty Golden (R-C), and his opponent Andrew Gounardes (D) will square off in their third debate – and the first to be televised citywide, tonight on New York 1 [channel 8 if you have Cablevision].

If you haven’t had your fill of the political drama that was the presidential debates, and you enjoyed watching this, then you really need to tune to NY 1 tonight at 7:00 p.m. for another look at both candidates in the race to represent the 22nd State Senate District!

Incidentally, Gounardes will be hosting a debate-watching party in the back room of Cebu Bar & Bistro [8801 3rd Ave], beginning at 6:45 p.m.
