The stretch of 69th Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues is plagued by a host of garbage and debris disposal violations, according to a report by Will Bredderman of the Bay Ridge Courier.

Two different members of Community Board 10 with businesses or homes on 69th Street believe that the City government is failing its due dilligence to enforce Sanitation laws on that stretch.

“That row of tenement buildings has broken cabinets sitting outside for days and days, or disgusting filthy mattresses that shouldn’t be sitting out in the rain,” Bob Hudock told Bredderman, in violation of laws that require refuse to be store inside or behind the residence or inside.

Household trash – ur doin’ it wrong

Two weeks ago, the Home Reporter and Sunset News reported that seven-day trash pickup is to resume on the commercial avenues in Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights – Fort Hamilton Parkway and 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 13th Avenues. The Department of Sanitation claims the move will not cost them any more money. The Community Board 10 District Manager, Josephine Beckmann, told the Home Reporter that the new DoS plan was promising.

Contrast that news from this bit from the Bensonhurst Bean yesterday – 18th Avenue from 65th Street to 75th Street (former Santa Rosalia country) remains trashcan-less, much to the dismay of merchants along the strip. Continue reading »
