On Friday, March 22nd at 6:00 pm the Christ Church After School and Creative Youth Center will host their annual Multicultural Festival at Christ Church Bay Ridge [7301 Ridge Blvd] (enter on 73rd street). Children ages five through ten will be performing musical and dance pieces from ten different countries.

After the performance, festival goers will enjoy a variety of food prepared by the young participants’ parents. Each family is asked to bring in a dish from their country of origin.

Director Victoria Hofmo explained in a press release, “It’s a great event and way to share the wonderful cultural richness of our After School family and our hometown Bay Ridge.”

Sorry, I have no idea if this is on the tour or not. It just looks like a piece of historic Bay Ridge architecture worth preserving. (Photo credit: Brian Hedden/Bay Ridge Odyssey)

A historic walking tour of Bay Ridge will be held on Saturday, October 20. The tour will be led by Victoria Hofmo, the founder of the Bay Ridge Conservancy.

The tour will focus on some of the neighborhood’s most pressing preservation priorities, including stops at Christ Church, Public School 102, “Doctor’s Row,” and the brownstone block on Senator Street.

The tour will kick off at 10am outside the east entrance of the 77th Street R-train station on 4th Avenue. For reservations, contact the Historic Districts Council at 212-614-9107.

It will conclude with an informal reception at the High School of Telecommunications Arts and Technology to continue the discussion about recent preservation efforts.

As founder of the Bay Ridge Conservancy, Victoria Hofmo has been a leading advocate for preserving Bay Ridge’s historic homes for well over a decade.

Hofmo’s tireless efforts have included defending the generously proportioned lots surrounding venerable old homes from developers intent on creating “super luxury” architectural eye sores. She even coined the term “Fedders houses” aka “Fedders Specials” in the process!

Back in April, Kip from Bay Ridge Journal reported that Hofmo will be leading a bike tour of Bay Ridge’s beauties – including favorites like the Arts & Crafts Ginger Bread House, on June 2, at 10 A.M. Click Here For More Info, Including Your Eligibility To Register
